Planet Earth is Not the Real World
“For, behold, I create new heavens and a new earth: and the former shall not be remembered, nor come into mind”…..”And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea.” Isaiah 65:17; Revelation 21:1
Lots of folks believe that this earth that we are living on is going to be here forever except, of course, for those who believe that climate change is going to wipe us out in a number of years. Depending on who is predicting, it could be five or ten or more years. Everyone is so upset because we are experiencing a heat wave in July. Well, duh. It is summer. It is supposed to be hot. I can remember summers hotter than this one, and my family didn’t have air conditioning. We just toughed it out and didn’t make a big deal out of it. People are such wimps now. They are so used to their creature comforts, such as air conditioning, cell phones, smart tvs, and meal and grocery delivery that if they had to rough it and go back to window fans, rotary phones (without texting or email), black and white tvs with only five or six stations, and, God forbid, had to go to the grocery store and buy their food products and then have to go home and cook their own meals, I don’t know how they would survive.
As far as predictions go about the end of the world as we know it, the world will end one of these days, but it won’t be due to climate change. It will be because God planned it. He might use the weather as part of His judgment, which I think He is likely doing now, but man has no control over the weather or anything else, for that matter. He thinks he has much more power than he really does, judging by his pontificating, bragging, and threats to regular folks like you and me. One politician has even blamed this heat wave on people who vote conservatively. It is really sad to watch these folks spout their ideologies, policies, and ungodly beliefs. When they do so, they are only displaying how little they really know about God, about His plans for folks, and about eternity. We are not to judge them, but scripture tells us that we can know them by their fruits, that is, their actions and words. That is what Jesus said (Matthew 7:20) about false prophets, but it can be applied to anyone who espouses falsehoods and ungodly policies. I get angry when I hear politicians make remarks that I know are not right, but rather than criticize, we should pray for them that God would touch their hearts and convict them of sin. Sin just begets more sin, but the one who leads a soul to Christ saves a soul from death and hides a multitude of sins (James 5:20).
Isaiah wrote that God would create a new heaven and a new earth, and that we who are privileged through salvation won’t remember what this old world was like. He said that we wouldn’t even think about it at all. Imagine never having to remember all the bad stuff that happened in your life. There are some things that we would like to forget, but that old devil gets a kick out of reminding us about those things we just as soon would like to forget. But, guess what? Satan won’t be in the new heaven or new earth. Matter of fact, there won’t be any sin, pain, sorrow, disappointments, death, funerals, or illnesses. Folks on this earth today are trying to create what they think is a utopia. The term “utopia” came from an imaginary island described as having a perfect political and social system written in a book by Sir Thomas More in 1516 (Webster’s Dictionary). If utopia has anything to do with politics, it can’t be anywhere near perfection!
There will be a utopia one day, but it won’t be on this earth on which we are residing at the present time. As best as I can understand it, God’s original intention was to create a near perfect world in the beginning, but the sin of a man and a woman polluted it and thus caused it to be cursed. He will remake it one day, though, and it will be perfect because He will rule in righteousness, and only those who have made a commitment to Him through Christ will be allowed to occupy this paradise home. There has to be a new earth because this one is not fixable. It is like an article of clothing that gets a stain that will not come out no matter how hard one tries to bleach it. Sin has stained this earth, and the only way to eliminate it is to destroy it and start over.
