All Things Work Together
“And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to His purpose.” Romans 8:28
There has been a lot of commercials on television lately, all focusing on the COVID-19/coronavirus pandemic which has spread across the entire globe. The advertisers, being automobile manufacturers, restaurants, supermarkets, attorneys, and just about every seller of every product, have made it a point to emphasize their concern for the safety of the American public. Many of them are using the phrase, or something like it: “We will all get through this together”, indicating that if everyone cooperates with social distancing, wearing gloves and/or masks, and keeping a check on our own health, then the curve that indicates the numbers affected can be flattened.
There is also a lot said about hope, but I would assume that hope is in the time when all of this goes away, and we get back to some kind of normal. However we can’t just place our hope in a time or a vaccine or positive thinking: our hope must be in Someone who has the power to bring healing to our land. I realize that it is not politically correct to bring up God’s name in a public presentation like the television ads or the daily briefings broadcast on the news channels, but without acknowledging God and His sovereign power and pleading for His mercy, hope in our own efforts will be futile.
I also realize that there are many folks out there who are on their knees praying for deliverance from this scourge of a disease, and I hope that God will hear our prayers and send a miracle to wipe the globe clean from the coronavirus. When the Apostle Paul wrote that “all things work together for good to them that love God”, he was relaying God’s promise to all of us who have surrendered to Christ and have placed our faith in Him. The current situation may not seem “good”, but God can work out any situation for the benefit of His children. Hebrews 11:6 tells us that “without faith it is impossible to please Him: for he that cometh to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him”.
The bottom line is that we cannot leave God out of the equation. We desperately need His help, thus we must diligently seek Him.
