My Life Paints A Picture
“A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in pictures of silver.” Proverbs 25:11
I am certainly no artist, Indeed I would like to be, Able to draw and paint, To express my personality.
But art is a special talent, Given to a certain few, Those with an eye for color, Red, yellow, green, and blue.
While I don’t possess the talent, Or a great artist’s ability, My life paints a picture, For all the world to see.
My landscape is a scene, Of memories far and near, The places that I have been, The people that I hold dear.
Still life in retrospect, Portrays times of sorrow, The pain of suffering and loss, The hope for a bright tomorrow.
Let me not paint an abstract, A portrait of regret and shame, A life lived in selfish pursuits, That did not honor Jesus’ name.
My portrait paints a picture, What do people see? Do I clearly represent, the Christ who died for me?
Could it be said later, When I enter heaven’s gallery, That I was a kind person, And loved Jesus in all sincerity?
What kind of legacy do we want to leave for our children and grandchildren, nieces and nephews, friends and those that we have known a long time? My cousin and I were talking several years ago, and she made the statement that when our grandchildren are gone, there will be no one to remember us. That’s kind of sad to think about. It’s as if we never existed. In the cemetery where my parents are buried, there are some monuments for folks who were born in the 1700’s. There is certainly no one around who remembers them. However, the honorable and faithful legacy that we leave can impact our children, grandchildren, and others who hopefully will carry on the things we taught them about living a Christ centered life. Thus the good that we impart to them hopefully will never die. That is something to ponder.
