Isn’t It Obvious?
“For the invisible things of Him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse.” Romans 1:20
As I wrote this blog, I was flying from Atlanta to Phoenix to see my daughter and her family whom I hadn’t seen in over two years. I was seated in the widow seat looking out over the vast expanse of the country. Everything looked so small from that vantage point. The cars looked like ants crawling along a long and meandering rope. It made me think just how small everything must appear to God. As we climbed higher, all I could see were clouds, white, fluffy puffs of moisture which empty across the land at God’s command, watering the earth with much needed rainfall. At times I could see farmland where food is grown to feed the multitudes of people that inhabit the earth.
We flew over the Mississippi River, and I could see barges traveling down the muddy waters carrying goods to distant cities. I think a lot of people take the things that God has provided for us for granted assuming their successes have been by their own doing without divine intervention. There is enough in nature to prove that this world did not just happen, but that there was a Creator who made the world, hung the stars in space, and made man in His own image.
I wondered just how many folks on this plane ever consider God as Creator and the sovereign Ruler over all mankind. I have no way of knowing their individual hearts, but it has been my experience in speaking with people that many folks do not give God a second thought. Oh, they might attend church on Easter, Christmas, for weddings or funerals, but there is no real commitment to serve the Lord. I can say that I am glad that they do go to church at least on those few occasions because they hopefully do hear the gospel, and I wish that they could understand that God desires us to worship Him all the time, not just on holidays.
Scripture is very clear. Those who follow Christ must love Him with all of their heart, soul, and mind. The Christian life is a lifestyle, not a temporary or on-again-off-again relationship. In the final analysis, God will accept no excuses. One is either in or out demonstrated by the way he or she lives his or her life. For myself, I want my life to be a living testimony to Christ and the word of God. Let’s just say that I am in it for the long haul. How about you?
