Woe to the Wicked
“Woe unto them that draw iniquity with cords of vanity, and sin as it were with a cart rope: That say, Let him make speed, and hasten his work, that we may see it: and let the counsel of the Holy One of Israel draw nigh and come, that we may know it! Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter! Woe unto them that are wise in their own eyes, and prudent in their own sight! Isaiah 5:18-21
Isaiah is laying out the warning for the people of Judah, but this warning is just as appropriate for the present day. God’s people, the people of Judah, were described as pulling their sins along behind them as if they were pulling a cart with a rope because they were excessively proud of their sin. One might say that they “wouldn’t leave home without them”. Folks are supposed to be ashamed of their sin, not proud of it. However, those who have become so deep in their sin tend to lose their ability to feel shame, remorse, or even guilt. This was where God’s people were at this time in history. This is about where we are today in our nation and our world. The people of Judah even dared God to hurry up and punish them. They didn’t believe His words spoken to them by the prophets Isaiah, Jeremiah, and others. Do the wicked of our day believe that God’s judgment is coming? They surely don’t act like they do.
I read an article online in which the author was lamenting the fact that our nation has so quickly become a nation which is led by people who hold contempt for America, who want to abandon our Constitution which was written by men with great foresight into the future, and, worst of all, have turned their collective back upon God, His word, and upon those of us who value truth and righteousness. The author came to the conclusion that those who desire to turn our nation into a godless, socialist country, are reaching their goals simply by redefining words. For many years, recession has been recognized as two consecutive quarters of negative growth. That makes sense. I am old enough to have lived through several recessions. I know what it looks like. We are hearing about large companies which are beginning to have layoffs of employees. Grocery prices have shot through the roof. In February of this year, a five-pound bag of potatoes was $2.77 at Walmart. Yesterday, a five-pound bag was $6.98. We are being told that inflation is only 8.5 per cent. Not for potatoes. That is a little over a 150 percent increase. Many other staples have similarly gone up in price. I don’t know how families with children are making it. I have heard that parents are skipping meals so that they can feed their children. Is this America?
Changing definitions is nothing new. For many years, folks have called adultery an “affair”. An “affair” doesn’t sound nearly as sinful as adultery, but it is still sinning no matter what one calls it. Fornication has been called “free love” since the 1960’s. There is nothing “free” about it. Having relations with anyone but one’s spouse leads to disease, abortions, and a lack of respect for oneself. Everything today is blamed on racism, but our current day is nothing like it was 60 years ago. The term racist has been so overused that it is practically meaningless. Justice today is letting the criminals go free to commit more crime, but the victim is persecuted and/or never receives justice for the crime committed against him or her. The textbook producers of the books to which our children and grandchildren are subjected have been “revised” to portray history in a false and misleading way. Whatever the elite doesn’t like, they refer to it as “misinformation” whether it is the truth or not. A Supreme Court nominee could not even define the word “woman”.
The most egregious of all the changes in how words are defined is to how Christians are seen by those who desire to eliminate God and replace Him with government. We are now known as either “domestic terrorists” or “white supremists”, never mind that many other races also know Christ as Lord and Savior. Believers are also called “white nationalists”. For years we have been called fanatics, those who use Christianity as a crutch, holy rollers, Bible thumpers, holier than thou, ignoramuses, and plenty of other disparaging terms. I guess the new terms for believers are a little fancier, but with the same contempt for those of us who honor the LORD God and His Son, Jesus Christ. If a person, group of people, or leader can change the definitions of words to suit his or her agenda, and if he or she can convince the vulnerable to believe that up is down and down is up, black is white, and white is black, and that men can become women and vice versa, then they have succeeded in their plan to change our nation into something that is unrecognizable by those who stand for freedom and righteousness. Proverbs 23:7 tells us that what folks think is what they become. Christians must not get distracted by the lies and deceptions and continue to stand for the truth of God’s word regardless of what we are called.
