Hang In There A Little Longer
“Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness for they shall be filled.” Matthew 5:6
I don’t know about you but I just get sick and tired of all the wickedness and evil being committed in the world. I wonder sometimes why God doesn’t go ahead and send Jesus back to straighten out this whole mess. While God has righteous anger at man’s sins and transgressions, His mercy delays judgment in order to give more time for people to repent and come to Jesus Christ to receive the righteousness of Christ in exchange for their sins. God promises to bless those who seek to develop a deeper and more intimate understanding of Him and His Word. Blessed are those who do right because it is right and pleasing to God, and not to get some type of reward in return. God knows our hearts and thus knows our true motives.
I have no power whatsoever to right all the wrongs in the world. I do have control over myself, though. If I strive to do what’s right and keep myself in line with how a Christian is supposed to live, with God’s help, that’s about all that I can do. How can one person make a difference? Perhaps my efforts to live righteously have no effect upon the world, but I can have an effect upon those in whom I come in contact on a daily basis. Someone once told me that I was “too” Christian. I don’t know exactly how that person meant that, but I took it as a compliment. Before you think that I am “tooting my own horn”, so to speak, I don’t always respond at every opportunity. However, there have been times when I did something for someone because they had a need, and while they certainly appreciated my efforts, they acted as though a simple kindness from anyone was so out of the ordinary. However, kindness, especially on the part of a believer, should be the norm. I guess there are plenty of folks who have not been shown the love of Christ very often. That is a sad indictment of the state of our world. No wonder the world is in such turmoil.
Jesus told us to seek the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all our needs would be met (Matthew 6:33). When we seek after Him, He not only fills us with righteousness, but supplies our physical needs as well. They, whoever “they” are, say, “It ain’t over till the fat lady sings”, but it won’t be the song of a fat lady that brings this world of woe to a close. It will be the trump of God which will announce Christ and usher in a world of peace and righteousness for all eternity. We don’t know when that will be, but until that time when the Peacemaker comes, we just need to hang in there, live our lives with purpose, and seek to do good to all.
