The Religion of Climate Change, Part 2
“Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.” Galatians 6:7
What used to be called “global warming” has evolved into “climate change”. We do seem to be having more violent storms and record-breaking temperatures, but I can remember bad storms and very hot temperatures in summer when I was young (and we didn’t have air conditioning!) We have just witnessed very powerful Hurricane Ida which has destroyed towns along the coast and major damage in the northeast. Several people have lost their lives due to this storm. I remember Hurricane Camille in 1969 which did heavy damage along the southeastern coast and traveled northward, taking the lives of over 200 people. One of the things that contributes to flooding is all the building and pavement which has been constructed over the years. Building, roads, and parking lots cannot absorb water and thus the more construction there is, the more flooding there will be. If climate change was actually man-made, then progress has contributed to extreme weather.
The politicians tells us that they must control and/or stop climate change. Since God is the only One who can control the weather, man’s attempt to eradicate storms and hot and cold temperatures is certainly an exercise in futility. Their likely major emphasis, like everything else they do, is to throw money at the problem, that is, our money they take from us. Those who cry “climate change” every time it rains have actually made “climate change” a religion. I believe that this man-made religion is actually a revived state of Baal worship. I also believe that God is using the climate as a means of judgment for rejecting Him and turning to gods which are no gods.
Worship of the Baal gods was rampant in ancient times. Baal was the chief of the male deities of the Canaanites, descendants of Noah’s youngest son, Ham. The word “Baal” means “master or lord”. Under Baal, there were several lesser gods who “ruled” over different aspects of the peoples’ lives. Baal-berith was the “weather god” who was worshipped by the Canaanites. Other forms of worship of Baal were human sacrifice, particularly child sacrifice of which we could equate in our day to abortion, the murder of unborn babies, creations of God. Just today the Supreme Court upheld a Texas law which restricted abortion after six weeks gestation. One of the major female political figures made the statement that restricting abortion in this manner was catastrophic. What is catastrophic is the brutal murder of an innocent baby. I remember a couple of years ago when a large northeastern state’s legislature celebrated a law that they passed to make abortions even easier and less restrictive.
The Baal worshippers also practiced sexual licentiousness of which today’s widespread adultery, fornication, and sexual perversion pervade every aspect of society. God made two genders, male and female (Genesis 2:22-23) and no others. The family, consisting of a male father, a female mother, and their children, was His idea. If I was an artist and could create a beautiful painting, and someone came along and took some paint and made all kinds of changes to my artwork, I would be angry. Since God’s thoughts are higher than ours, we don’t know exactly what He is thinking, but I would imagine, based upon His word, that He is righteously indignant at how man and women have tried to change what He has created. He made it clear that He would not be mocked, and that folks would suffer the consequences of their actions. Sometimes He uses the very things that people worship, that is, the things that they idolize, as a means to wake them up to the truth that the LORD God is the only God to be worshipped, praised, and revered. He punished Israel in this way at times, and there’s no reason to believe that He wouldn’t punish any other nation likewise who mocked Him.
If climate change is man-made, it is caused by the sins of our nation. Until we go down on our knees, humbling ourselves, repenting of our sins, and trusting in the Lord Jesus Christ, it is likely to get worse. However, God stands ready to forgive all who will come to Him.
