Barbarians at the Gate
“For Thou hast possessed my reins: Thou hast covered me in my mother’s womb. I will praise Thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvelous are Thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well. My substance was not hid from Thee, when I was made in secret, and curiously wrought in the lowest parts of the earth. Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect; and in Thy book all my members were written which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them. Psalm 139:13-16
Psalm 139 is a psalm written by King David around 3,000 years ago. He wrote it as a song of praise for his life from the very moment of conception. He was grateful that God brought him forth from the womb and had been with him every step of the way through his life, both in the good times and especially in the difficult days of which there were many.
Our nation and our world stands at the crossroads of God’s judgment as we have legally allowed the killing of unborn babies since Roe vs. Wade was passed in 1973. Over the 46 years since that day, it is estimated that over 50,000,000 babies have been aborted before birth. Apparently this isn’t enough for some of the politicians in our nation. Many of them are pushing for abortions at the moment of birth and even after birth, and some have already passed laws to make this legal. They have even celebrated the murder of the most innocent and helpless among us. Other states are falling in line with this barbaric practice. I read a quote on line that said, “…if the barbarians were at my gate, I guess I would start praying for a miracle.” It seems that it will take a miracle to change the hearts and minds of those who believe that they can sin without consequences.
I have read articles that promote the possibility that abortion is tied in to the occult. That idea has merit. Looking back to the ancient days in Israel, the heathen nations around Israel, and Israel as well, practiced child sacrifice to appease Molech, one of the Baal gods. God called it an abomination (Jeremiah 32:35). I have a theory that not only abortion, but “global warming” or “climate change” or whatever it is being call now is actually a religion–a modern day form of Baal worship. The gods of Baalim were demons who pretended to be gods. “Baal” means “lord” and was considered to be a fertility god responsible for a good harvest of crops and also for the conception of children. Ironically, child sacrifice was also a requirement in the worship of the Baal gods. The Canaanites believed Baal to be the sun god and the storm god. Sacrifices were made in order to ward off bad weather. I can’t help but believe that those who think that man’s actions control the weather, thus calling for drastic measures, is really a call to appease a modern-day Baal. Perhaps the proponents of climate change need to consider that it might just be man’s sins that are bringing on bad weather. Another form of Baal worship involved illicit sex and prostitution. We need look no further than our TV screens to view Hollywood’s promotion of such.
To put King David’s psalm into today’s language, it would go something like this: “God, You have possessed me physically, mentally, and spiritually. You formed me in my mother’s womb. I praise You for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Everything You do is marvelous, and I am completely convinced of that. My being was not hid from You. I was made in secret and eagerly fashioned in the innermost recesses of Your creation. Your eyes saw me even before I was fully formed. In Your book, You described and recorded every part of me, every limb, every organ, my fingers and my toes even as I was being formed from a tiny speck in my mother’s womb.” God didn’t just see David like that, He sees all babies as His precious creation.
God will forgive those who abort their babies or who promote abortion if they will repent and trust in Him. All babies’ lives matter.
