God is an Awesome God
“He hath made the earth by His power, He hath established the world by His wisdom, and hath stretched out the heavens by His discretion”. Jeremiah 10:12
I don’t understand how folks can look out upon this earth and not see God in every good thing. Paul wrote in Romans 1:19-20 that God has made Himself known to all His creation through nature and what Paul terms as the invisible things that are clearly seen. How can one see what is invisible? We see things that can’t be seen with the eye by instinct and through our conscience. God put it into the heart of every human being a desire to worship something greater than himself or herself with the intent being to worship Him. He is the only One worthy of worship. Men and women have no excuse to not worship, love, and serve Him, but we know that most of the world’s population do not honor Him as the sovereign God of the universe. One doesn’t have to look far at all to observe the sin, degradation, and perversion that men and women have committed against our righteous and holy God. If they only knew what they were missing in having a relationship with their Creator through Jesus Christ.
Our God definitely is an awesome God. He has created so much wonder all around us. For example, I look at a tiny, tiny mite that likes to make her home in the pages of old books. She is so small, she can barely be seen with the naked eye, yet within her dwells functioning organs. One wonders how something so small can even exist. I also think about the great oceans, and how the tide rolls in and out with regularity, never missing a beat. The incoming waves can go no further than God allows (Job 38:11). Consider gravity. The earth turns on its axis, never spinning out of control. Our feet are firmly planted on the ground while at the same time we are moving at just a bit over 1,000 miles per hour. At night, when the earth is rotated away from the sun, we are basically upside down, yet we don’t fall off the earth into the vast unknown called space.
The songbird sings her praises to God in the morning. She never went to music school nor took singing lessons, yet her song is beautifully on pitch and fills the air with such sweet sounds. I suppose the most miraculous creation is the human body with all of its many parts, organs, bones, muscles, and a brain that coordinates it all together to give us the ability to breathe, see, hear, walk, talk, and love one another from which love new life comes. Look at all the abilities that God gave to man to work, invent, produce, and build to make life better for the multitudes of us earthlings. He gave us natural resources to use for our comfort and gave man the intelligence to figure out how to harness these resources for energy to keep us warm in the winter and cool in the summer. Look at all the modern conveniences that we have. We no longer have to go down to the creek and beat our clothes on a rock or dig wells to have water or ride in buggies pulled by horses. As far as technology and innovation go, we have come a long way, baby! What about all the various foods and flavors that He has given us to enjoy? I could go on and on mentioning the blessings of God upon His creation, but you get the picture.
As far as abilities go, God gave us the greatest gift of all in offering a personal relationship with Him through Jesus Christ. Because of Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross, we can call God our Father, the same God who created the world and mankind. Our awesome God cared about us enough to give up His Son to suffer agony and excruciating pain in order that we could be free from the guilt of sin and become part of His family. Every day that passes, there is always something of God’s love to celebrate. No matter the circumstances, there is always something for which to be amazed at our awesome God. To be in awe of Him is to have such profound respect and admiration because of His majestic greatness and grandeur that we are nearly speechless and stopped in our tracks. It takes an awesome God to do what He did to save sinners like us.
