A Perpetual Treasure
“Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.” Psalm 119:105
This is my 1,000th blog posting. My goal in writing these blogs based on scripture is to encourage folks to pick up the Bible and read it for themselves, digging deeply into the word, and discovering the heart of God. The Bible is the only Book that God ever wrote. It is His mind as revealed unto men and women. It is the only real way to know God, His plan for mankind, His love, mercy, and compassion for His creation. Much can be learned about God from preachers and teachers of the gospel, but the most knowledge that one can receive about God is to study His word for oneself with the aid of the Holy Spirit. The following I wrote in 2014 to put into writing what God’s word means to me. I hope that you enjoy it.
“This old Book that I hold in my hand would lead one who gets a glimpse of it to think that it had seen its better days. The pages are yellowed. The binding has lost some of its strength causing some pages to separate from the volume. The cover is frayed and some of the pages are wrinkled. It has been my constant companion for many, many years, and, like an old friend, has stood with me through thick and thin, joy and sorrow, good times and bad.
“It has been on the best seller list for thousands of years. No other book can claim to have the widespread influence of its words. Many say they don’t read it because they don’t understand it, but I think they mostly don’t want to have the truth about themselves revealed. It is like a mirror that reflects the soul of a person.
“A lot of people make fun of it saying it isn’t relevant anymore. It is not that this book doesn’t relate to the world anymore; it is that the world in its ungodly and sinful pursuits refuses to relate to it anymore. It has been the same all throughout the ages and will stand the test of time.
“It holds the key to a life well-lived and an eternity of unending joy and peace. It contains all the answers to every problem. It is unmatched in its poetic beauty and in the verifiable truth of its contents. It is a book that reviews the past, renews the present, and reveals the future. It is a masterpiece among masterpieces because it was written by the Master Himself. It has come a long way, you know. It was here long before I got here, and it will be here long after I have departed this frail human body.
“I am sure by now that you know that I am talking about the Bible–the B-I-B-L-E, yes, that’s the Book for me. I stand with the LORD on His promises, the B-I-B-L-E, a perpetual treasure.”
