It Was Jesus, You See
“For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.” Luke 2:11
Today, December 18th, is the day that my husband of over 37 years was born. He was a good man, one who loved the Lord, loved his family, and lived a life of faith. As a tribute to him, I am publishing a Christmas poem that he wrote in the late 1980’s.
T’was a time before Christmas and all through the land, The stage had been set by a heavenly hand.
The angels were poised all ready and set, To sing of a birth that hadn’t happened as yet.
The stable was ready with places for three, For His birth in a palace that was not to be.
The journey for Mary had already begun, The arduous trip before the birth of the Son.
The shepherds had gathered their sheep on that day, The fields they were in, they were not going to stay.
They hurried to move to new pastures that night, Unaware of the chorus, O what a sight!
The tree was now growing that would be made into a cross, On which someday He would be nailed to pay all our cost.
The star was in motion for the wise men to see, For them to follow was the way t’was to be.
As Mary’s journey continued she became quite weary, At the end of the journey things seemed even more dreary.
The inns were full no room to be spared, But finally a stable with the animals they shared.
And then on that night as the animals looked down, The Child came from heaven, earthward bound.
The angels their chorus they began to sing, Peace on this earth, this Child He will bring.
The angels were singing praises for God’s Emanuel, The Lord He is with us is the story they tell.
The shepherds, what a message they had heard on that night, Now they hurried to see the world’s true guiding Light.
For the birth of that child, it was Jesus you see, The Savior from God, for you and for me.
For the birth of that child, it was Jesus you see, God’s greatest gift for you and for me.
