What’s Up With That?
“And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.” Genesis 2:7
It has always puzzled me how people can believe that men and women started out as some blob of primordial ooze and then over millions of years automatically evolved into a complex human being, some male, some female, some white, some black, brown, yellow, or red. And if this was so, how did man stop evolving? Why didn’t he keep changing into a different creature? And did the giraffes, dogs, cockroaches, and fish all evolve from the same primordial ooze? And who made the ooze? If man evolved from apes, why do we still have apes? What is up with that? Just asking.
It takes more faith to believe in man’s evolution than to believe in a sovereign Creator who put the human body together with all of its’ complex parts that work in unison and placed within the body the soul, that is, the mind, will, and emotions, resulting in a living, thinking, breathing creation made in God’s image. Like the little boy said, “I know I’m somebody ’cause God don’t make no junk!”
That’s right. God doesn’t make junk. He created people to be His family. He knows each and every one of us, what we think and how we feel about, well, everything. He knows that many of us are frightened now about the coronavirus, and it is scary. The unknown is always frightening. However, while the coronavirus has caused a lot of concern, I am more concerned about the reaction that folks are having towards it. Some of the commentators on television and on line have made it sound like we are all going to die within a couple of weeks. I have read the back of the Book, and the world doesn’t end that way. Is this pandemic a judgment from God? I don’t know. It could be. Our world is certainly full of sinful folks. It could be a warning. In studying the Old Testament from the book of Judges through II Chronicles, we find that God always warned Israel before He “brought the hammer down” on them. God gives warnings to folks to give them time to evaluate their lives and see if there is some repentance due. God is fair, and He is a God of second chances.
While I am certainly a nobody by this world’s standards, I know the One who created me, and know that He is able to keep me in the palm of His hand, whether I remain healthy or not. One positive result from this situation is that some folks might just look at their lives, evaluate how they are living, and turn to the One who holds our future in His hands.
