He Was There All The Time
“Who hath believed our report? and to whom is the arm of the LORD revealed?” Isaiah 53:1
This question posed by the prophet Isaiah between 2,200 and 2,300 years ago is just as relevant today as it was then. Actually, it is even more relevant today because that which Isaiah foretold in ancient Israel concerning Christ, the Messiah, was still to take place. The people of Isaiah’s day were being asked to believe in a specific Savior who would come at some future date, while we have the knowledge that Christ did come and fulfill every single prophecy concerning the coming of God’s Messiah including His death on the cross, His resurrection, and His ascension back to God His Father in heaven. However, even though the prophecy was for a future time, the ancient Jews had no excuse not to believe that Jesus was the Messiah. Isaiah and the other prophets, including their revered king David, gave such specific details of Christ’s birth, life, suffering, and death that it would have been hard to miss Him. But, by and large, they did.
People are still missing Him. The writers of scripture have given clear-cut evidence that Jesus is the Son of God, that He willingly gave His life to pay the penalty for sins of every man, woman, boy, and girl, and that He rose again to prove that God will raise again every person that has ever been born, either to eternal life or to eternal separation and judgment. The entire word of God is His Story, the history of creation, the fall, the great sacrifice that was made to pay man’s penalty for sin, and redemption. It is called the “Greatest Story Ever Told” because no human author could write a love story that could even attempt to come close to the depth and breadth of love that was displayed upon the cross of Calvary.
The question arises: why do some folks believe the report of Isaiah, the other prophets, Jesus’ disciples, and Jesus Himself and others do not? Vast numbers of people have believed, are believing now, and will believe in the future, but much greater numbers have not and will not believe in Christ and His gospel. I have no answer. What I do know is that God will reveal Himself and His plan of salvation to anyone who sincerely searches for the truth.
