How Did We Get Here?

Whoever said that you can’t get there from here was definitely wrong in some respects. How did we get from a nation founded upon the freedom to worship and whose Constitution is based upon the word of God written by God-fearing men to a nation that promotes some of the most ungodly policies that man could ever devise? It didn’t happen overnight. It has been a gradual deviation from a nation built by those who loved God and chose to honor Him to a nation who ignores God and the godly principles upon which America was founded. Those men and women who led the forming of a government of, by, and for the people must have been prophets. I suppose God gave them the foresight to see into the future. They originated the U.S. Constitution as a document that focuses on protection for the rights of Americans against those who would desire to make her into something unrecognizable to all those who are patriots, who love our country and are deeply grateful for the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
I ran across several quotes from people who realized that freedom was a precarious way of life which could be lost unless diligently protected by those who were and are courageous and willing to fight to keep America free. Our first President, George Washington, wrote, “If the freedom of speech is taken away then dumb and silent we may be led like sheep to the slaughter.” He also wrote, “Let us with caution indulge the supposition that morality can be maintained without religion. Reason and experience both forbid us to expect that national morality can prevail in exclusion of religious principles.” (Those of us who are believers in Jesus Christ recognize that our faith is not about religion but about a relationship with Christ. By using the term “religion”, I believe President Washington was referring to lives which included God and the worship of and service to Him and not some specific church or denomination.) Recently, there have been those who have pulled down statues of some of our founding fathers, including that of George Washington. Apparently these anarchists do not agree with honoring God, keeping America free, and the right to pursue the American dream.
Another quote that I saw on line was one of an American patriot named Elmer Davis. He said, “This nation will remain the land of the free only so long as it is the home of the brave.” We need more men and women of courage who are not afraid to stand up to those who are bent on destroying our nation as it was founded on godly principles. Author Edward Abbey said that “A patriot must always be ready to defend his country against his government.” No one that I know wants to believe that those who have control of our government would get so ruthless and dictatorial that honest and patriotic folks would actually have to defend their basic rights as citizens. What would that mean? It sounds rather ominous. This is the very reason that the 2nd Amendment was added to the Constitution, “the right of the people to keep and bear arms”. When communism takes over any country, the first thing that is done is to take away the guns of the citizenry. Without a way to protect ourselves and our families, we are sitting ducks to the whims and onerous regulations of those who are in power. Another of our founding fathers, Samuel Adams, said, “If ever a time should come when vain and aspiring men shall possess the highest seats of government, our country will stand in need of its experienced patriots to prevent its ruin.” How much is freedom worth? Plenty of folks have died to preserve freedom.
Our former president, Ronald Reagan, said, “Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. We didn’t pass it to our children in the bloodstream. It must be fought for, protected, and handed on for them to do the same, or one day we will spend our sunset years telling our children and our children’s children what it was once like in the United States where men were free.” That is a sobering thought to think that my grandchildren and their descendants might possibly live under the thumb of some ungodly dictator and never know the America in which I grew up. America is not perfect because it is filled with imperfect people, but it is still the greatest nation on earth and will continue to be so if we do not turn our backs on our most blessed and righteous Lord.
There has been mounting evidence of voter fraud in this last election. Many have come forward to relay what they witnessed in the polling places and in the counts. If the fraud is allowed to continue, then, in effect, our right to vote for the candidate of our choice shall be abridged. If future elections will already be determined by one party’s or one candidate’s arranging for thousands of illegal votes in the election, then we no longer have a free choice. We will be no better than a dictatorship. Is this the beginning of the end for America, or will we stand up and make a difference for freedom? Many of us will never know the privilege of living in a free country until we lose it.
